How to install an eSIM on Android
Install over Wi‑Fi before you fly, then switch the travel eSIM on for mobile data when you land.
Before you start
- Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked. Not sure? See Does my phone support eSIM?
- Connect to Wi‑Fi and keep your QR code email open on another screen.
Samsung Galaxy
- Open Settings › Connections › SIM manager (called SIM card manager on some models).
- Tap Add eSIM (or Add mobile plan), then Scan QR code.
- Scan the QR code from your email and confirm.
- QR code on the same phone? Take a screenshot of it, then tap the gallery icon on the scan screen and choose the screenshot.
Google Pixel
- Open Settings › Network & internet › SIMs.
- Tap Add SIM (or +), then Download a SIM instead? or Set up an eSIM, depending on your Android version.
- Scan the QR code and tap Download.
- Can’t scan? Tap Need help? › Enter it manually and type the activation details from your installation instructions.
When you land
- Choose the travel eSIM for mobile data. Samsung: Settings › Connections › SIM manager › Mobile data. Pixel: Settings › Network & internet › SIMs.
- Turn on roaming for the travel eSIM, unless your installation instructions say otherwise. Samsung: Settings › Connections › Mobile networks › Data roaming. Pixel: Settings › Network & internet › SIMs › [travel eSIM] › Roaming.
No internet? Try this
- Check that the travel eSIM is on, selected for mobile data, and has roaming on.
- If your installation instructions list an APN, add it under Mobile networks › Access Point Names.
- Turn Airplane mode on and off, or restart your phone.
- Don’t delete the eSIM. A deleted eSIM usually can’t be reinstalled.
Menu names can differ slightly by phone brand and software version.

Will I lose my WhatsApp or home number?
No. Your regular SIM stays in your phone. The travel eSIM only handles mobile data, so WhatsApp keeps working with your usual number.
Can I use the eSIM for a hotspot?
Yes, as long as your phone and the local network support it.
