Does my phone support eSIM?
Your phone needs two things: it must support eSIM, and it must be unlocked (not tied to one carrier).
The 10-second check
Open your phone app and dial *#06#. If you see an EID number (32 digits), your phone supports eSIM.
iPhone
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and newer support eSIM.
- iPhones bought in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao may not support eSIM.
- Check it’s unlocked: Settings › General › About › Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions”.
Samsung Galaxy
- Go to Settings › Connections › SIM manager. If you see Add eSIM, your phone supports eSIM.
- You can also find the EID in Settings › About phone › Status.
Google Pixel
- Go to Settings › Network & internet › SIMs and tap Add SIM or +. If you see an option to download or set up an eSIM, you’re good to go.
Good to know
- Some phones sold in certain countries don’t support eSIM, even if the same model does elsewhere. Examples include some Samsung models sold in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.
- The phone must not be jailbroken or rooted.
- Not sure if your phone is unlocked? Ask your home carrier.
Menu names can differ slightly by phone brand and software version.
